Here’s another song from my opening set at Kira Willey Choir & Co. pop-up event. True Colors (written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly) is a Cyndi Lauper pop ballad from my youth and it has endured as a classic. I put my own spin on the song a few months ago, hoping to present it with the unconditional love and acceptance of a both a mom and a nana. What happens here is pure magic…Michael Lear’s gentle percussion, teary-eyed singing in the crowd, Eve Sheldon joining in on piano for the glorious freestyle at the end. All unrehearsed, and with grace. My thanks to Gail for lovingly capturing this scene.
Such a meaningful event, with Kira Willey and Choir & Co. pop-up choir in celebration of PRIDE month, plus I made a new friend. Michael Lear and I met tonight during stage set up, and he very graciously added drums to a couple of songs. This one is Least Complicated by Indigo Girls. I haven’t played it in years, but it was perfect for the event.
